Robert Spiotto’s Musical Tribute to Danny Kaye

Temple Emanuel of Great Neck, 150 Hicks Ln., will present “Courting the Jester,” Robert Spiotto’s Musical Tribute to Danny Kaye. Multi-talented Bob Spiotto sings and dances in a non-stop overview of Kaye’s life, told with energy and humor. •March 4: Rabbi Todd Chizner and Cantor Abbe Sher will present a special  program on Purim to the Hebrew School. Purim commemorates a time when Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. The children will celebrate this joyous and fun holiday with a magician and receive goody bags, and enjoy hamentaschen, pizza, and bagels.

•March 5: Rabbi Todd Chizner’s Torah class will meet at 10:30 a.m. He will use the classic technique of revealing layer after layer of meaning within a given passage of the Torah. Starting with the surface level and moving through to deeper understandings. Classes include reading of a Torah passage in English, explanations of the Hebrew words, thought provoking questions and a healthy amount of discussion. Attendance in the class requires no formal knowledge of Hebrew or Torah.

Port North Spring Boys Basketball

Port North is a 3-year-old independent basketball team based out of Port Washington that plays year round in the super league at Island Garden and various tournaments in the metropolitan area. The program currently has a combined record of 30 - 3 in the winter super league. The emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals, developing good practice habits and preparing players for middle and high school basketball. The team has a professional trainer with over 20 years experience. We are currently looking for experienced and dedicated basketball players in grades 4 through 10 who are interested in trying out for spring and AAU basketball. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the Arts, History and Sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Nassau County Museum of Art

The Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Dr., Roslyn Harbor, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Admission is $10 adults; $8 seniors (62+); $4 children (4-12); members free. Weekends only there is a $2 parking fee (members free). There is a docent-led exhibition tour every day at 2 p.m.; meet in the lobby, no reservations are needed. Van Nostrand Starkins House Museum

Located at 221 Main St., Roslyn. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 adults; $2 children and seniors. Beverly McDermott, museum educator, gives guided tours every half hour. The museum is filled with two rooms of 18th century antique furniture and one room filled with 18th century samplers and archaeological artifacts. The Children’s Hands on Education program is not to be missed. It is filled with 18th century reproductions of children’s clothing, toys and artifacts for children to handle and enjoy. Will reopen in the spring.
