•March 4: Rabbi Todd Chizner and Cantor Abbe Sher will present a special program on Purim to the Hebrew School. Purim commemorates a time when Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. The children will celebrate this joyous and fun holiday with a magician and receive goody bags, and enjoy hamentaschen, pizza, and bagels.
•March 5: Rabbi Todd Chizner’s Torah class will meet at 10:30 a.m. He will use the classic technique of revealing layer after layer of meaning within a given passage of the Torah. Starting with the surface level and moving through to deeper understandings. Classes include reading of a Torah passage in English, explanations of the Hebrew words, thought provoking questions and a healthy amount of discussion. Attendance in the class requires no formal knowledge of Hebrew or Torah.

•Provides support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors. The Coalition also works to ensure societal accountability, improve institutional responsiveness to victims and increase public awareness in order to prevent domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. •The Coalition is seeking individuals to volunteer in its “Hands Are Not for Hitting,” an exciting domestic violence prevention program for elementary school children in kindergarten through 2nd grade. •A Safe Home. The Coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. For women who are victims of violent relationships, safety is a major concern. Falaise, an elegant Normandy-style manor house built by the late Captain Harry F. Guggenheim as a summer residence. Overlooking the LI Sound on the 216-acre Sands Point Preserve, Falaise transports visitors back in time to the heyday of LI’s Gold Coast. In addition to the art and furnishings are many objects that recall Harry Guggenheim’s public service, military career, racing and aviation interests and long friendship with Charles Lindbergh. Entrance is by guided tour only which begins at Castlegould Visitor Center where visitors board a bus to Falaise. They are met by experienced guides who interpret the history, architecture and art of the family, house and beautiful courtyard pool. The Thomas Dodge House, circa. 1721, is the oldest house in Port Washington and a living museum administered by the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society. The Dodge House is open for guided tours from 1 to 5 pm on the fourth Sunday of the month April through October. Admission is $2.50. It is located at 58 Harbor Rd. From May through October, the Sands-Willets House, circa 1735, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the headquarters of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society is open for guided tours of its 10 fully furnished rooms on the first and third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. Also included is a tour of the 1600’s Dutch barn. Tour hours: 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. An admission fee of $5 per adult and $2.50 for children under 12 helps the society maintain the house, its barn and the grounds on which they stand.
