Kyle Jordan, freshman pitcher, has been a member of the 2012 Oneonta State baseball team. This spring the Oneonta Red Dragons compiled an 18-21 over-all record while going 9-9 in the SUNYAC conference. Jordan made 11 appearances on the mound and started two games for Oneonta. He threw 22 innings of work with 13 earned runs. He struck out 12 batters and threw a complete game. He held the opponent to a .262 batting average. Jordan is a Division Avenue High School graduate.
Island Trees graduate Ryan MacDonald is a key contributor on the Division 1 Fairleigh Dickinson University varsity baseball team. The Knights are coached by former Island Trees teacher Gary Puccio. They are currently in third place in the Northeast Conference.
The Division Avenue High School Dragons just finished a three-game sweep of Roslyn to maintain a one-game lead over South Side for first place in League A2. The Dragons won the first two games 6-4 and 2-0.
The Lady Dawgs of Island Trees High School bounced back from a one run, non-league loss with a huge 7-0 league win against New Hyde Park on April 18. Alannah Basile pitched a complete game gem throwing her first career Varsity no-hitter. Along with not giving up any hits, she struck out 10 batters, while scattering five walks. Behind every no-hitter stands a solid defense and the Dawgs were on point the entire game.
On April 2, the Island Trees Boys Track team hosted their first meet in many years. They were victorious, beating the Malverne Mules, the East Rockaway Rocks and the Seaford Vikings. They were led by their winning relay teams, which included the 4x100 meter team: Anthony Leonick, Adam Kirschner, Tom Brownstone and Tyler Blauvelt; the 4x800 team: John Rivera, Adam Kirschner, Chris Mule, and Lucas Panebianco; and the 4x400 “four horsemen” team: Ryan Paolino, Brendan Beiersdorfer, Nick Alavanja, and Lucas Pugliese.
The Nassau County Track Coaches Association selected Kelly Clifford, a senior at MacArthur High School, as the Winter Track 2012 Outstanding Female Field Athlete. She holds eight track and field records at MacArthur, has competed in States four times, as well as the Long Island Championships and Nationals. Clifford has been All County, All Conference and All Divisional for track and field for four years. Her records include: 5 feet, 6 inches for high jump, 36 feet, 3 inches for triple jump and 16 feet, 9.5 inches for long jump.
Legislator Dennis Dunne, Sr., recently attended the Division Avenue High School (DAHS) Football Program, “The Quarterback Club” for the 2011 Blue Dragons annual football awards dinner. Jennifer Jean, of Levittown, recently hit .478 with seven runs scored, seven RBIs and four multi-hit games, for SUNY College at Old Westbury. She was named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
On April 14, the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council held its annual baseball parade and opening day baseball tournament. Teams representing Levittown West Little League (LWLL), Levittown Central Baseball, Levittown South Wantagh Baseball, Levittown North Baseball and the Island Trees Baseball club participated.
Junior Anthony Semonella (pictured) won his first varsity start by throwing a complete game against undefeated New Hyde Park allowing only five hits while striking out five. Sophomore Joe Spitaleri went two for two with a run scored. Senior Brett McBride’s run-scoring single in the second inning gave Division a 2-0 lead. With this win, the Dragons are currently in first place in League A 2.
