Defensive Driving Classes

The Gold Coast Lions Club is continuing its series of Defensive Driving Classes. The cost is $40 per person. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and comraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the Arts, History and Sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Port North Spring Boys Basketball

Port North is a 3-year-old independent basketball team based out of Port Washington that plays year round in the super league at Island Garden and various tournaments in the metropolitan area. The program currently has a combined record of 30 - 3 in the winter super league. The emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals, developing good practice habits and preparing players for middle and high school basketball. The team has a professional trainer with over 20 years experience. We are currently looking for experienced and dedicated basketball players in grades 4 through 10 who are interested in trying out for spring and AAU basketball. •Spotlight on Glen Cove will be on Cablevision Public Access Channel 18 from 4:30 to 5 p.m. every Monday. The show is produced by GCHS TV Class under the direction of Chris Barry and features programs about the Glen Cove School District and the City of Glen Cove.

•Padre Pio Prayer Group meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of St. Rocco. The entire service is in both English and Italian. The recitation of the Rosary and a Novena to Padre Pio precedes the celebration of the Mass by Father Peter Vaccari. All are welcome.

•Locust Valley Garden Club. The Executive Board of the Locust Valley Garden Club invites new members to join. The club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at Bailey Arboretum. At the Animal Shelter

The Glen Cove Animal Lovers’ League Shelter invites the public to visit the shelter to meet the many loving dogs and cats available for adoption. All cats have been tested, vaccinated and neutered and all dogs are vet checked. Our dog trainer/adoption coordinator will match one of our wonderful dogs with you and your family. Glen Cove Adult Day Care

This program for the frail elderly is available Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. A warm, inviting, secure place to spend the day with a caring, experienced and responsive staff. Transportation is provided to residents of Glen Cove and some surrounding communities. Lunch and snacks are served daily. Exhibits at the Holocaust Center

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of NC, 100 Crescent Beach Rd. Glen Cove. The center is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Suggested donation: $10 adults; $5 students and seniors (65+). •Displaced Persons Camps: Rebuilding Culture and Community in the Aftermath of World War II, written and curated by survivor and historian Lillian Gewirtzman, is currently on display. The exhibit highlights the renaissance of Jewish cultural life and community which took place among the more than one million survivors who were left essentially homeless after WWII. The center has opened its long-awaited permanent exhibit which uses photographs, artifacts, and video to relate the events of the Holocaust and relate them to more recent genocides and acts of intolerance.
